Stephen Patrick Lawn
November 16, 1949 - January 2, 2019
Tribute
Steve passed away peacefully in the hours following New Years Day. He is preceded by his wife, Diane, and survived by his two sons and their partners, James (Jessica) and Michael (Kailey); his beautiful grandchildren, Malachi, Diana, and Barrett; his loving partner, Ruth; and his sister, Kathy, and her family.
Steve was born in Kingston, Ontario, and spent much of his early life in Quebec where he forged many lasting friendships and attended university where he became a professional engineer.
His career as an engineer led him to the pulp and paper industry and to Ladysmith, BC, where he met his wife, Diane. They settled in Powell River and started a family and a homestead north of town. Later, after Diane passed away in 2012, Steve met and fell in love with Ruth with whom he shared a love of working on the farm and travel.
Steve was an avid outdoorsman and boater and was known to spend his summers fishing, exploring Desolation Sound, and relaxing on Savary Island. He loved softball and held dear the years he spent playing with friends at Craig Park. In the winter months, he organized longstanding hockey pools and billiards tournaments. All this was fodder for Steve’s love of sharing stories with his friends and family.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held in the spring. More details will follow.
