Richard Neil Gration

September 3, 1953 - October 18, 2015

Tribute

We are sad to announce the passing of a wonderful man: a husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, brainiac and much more. Rick passed in the company of those who loved him on Sunday morning, October 18, at 11:35 am. Rick won and lost many battles with brain cancer. In the end, the cancer was just too much for him to continue the fight.

He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Pearl Gration. Rick is survived by his loving wife Valerie, his son Stephen, daughter Kerrin (Tim) Fraser and grandchildren Jordan and Emily Mae Fraser. He also leaves behind a brother Peter (Victoria), nieces and nephew Heather, Jennifer and Kevin, sister Pat (Rique) Ward, nieces Riqui and Richelle (Marlo) Lewis and grand-niece Rylin, sister Diane (Bill) Dermott, and nieces and nephew Sarah (Chris), Robert (Renee), and Kimberly. Rick is also survived by a large extended family who loved him as their own: his mother-in-law Sylvia MacNeill and Val’s brothers and sisters Doug, Robert, Bryan, Kathy, Ward and Charlene, as well as their respective spouses.

Rick was a kind and loving man who had a special relationship with the Lord. He took solace in a needlepoint done by his mother, which read: The Lord is my Shepherd, I Shall not Want. Rick was a family member of the Powell River Brain Injury Society and will be deeply missed by all his brainiac family. He worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart and was loved by all his associates and the people who he talked with when they came to the store.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday, October 26, at 1 pm at the Foursquare Gospel Church, 4640 Manson Avenue, followed by a burial service at Cranberry Cemetery.

His wife Valerie would like to thank Wal-Mart, Safeway Powell River, Brain Injury Society, Rotary Club of Powell River, Powell River Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care, the Ambulance and Fire Services and the whole community of Powell River for their support and care in donating to the garage sale to purchase the wheelchair lift for Rick.

{C}Thanks especially to Katie Cameron, Matt Hexter, Stephen Gration, Joanne Lawson, Steve Wadsworth, Charlie Gatt and Wal-Mart for increasing the quality of life for Rick in his final weeks through the generous donations and time for the wheelchair-lift installation.

Donations to Powell River Brain Injury Society or the Powell River Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care) are

appreciated in lieu of flowers.
